Standing Offhand

Standing Offhand provides principle-based tactical training specifically for domestic U.S. law enforcement. Founded by instructors with extensive military and law enforcement backgrounds, their experience ranges from daily patrol duties to direct combat and VIP operations. They stand out through a philosophy of humility and context, refusing to teach a rigid "only way." Instead, they adapt proven skills to the realities of American policing. Based in Arizona, their courses focus on practical application to increase officer survivability and value, delivered with a passionate, relatable "Offhand" attitude that fosters a superior learning environment.

Jeff Chang is the owner/operator with over 30 years as a police officer in three cities, including 12 years as a SWAT sniper and sniper team leader. He served multiple enlistments in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve as a Scout/Sniper, with deployments to two wars. He is a firearms instructor at the largest police academy in his state, co-chaired the Sniper SME Committee for the Arizona Tactical Officers Association for nine years, and has developed sniper programs for domestic and foreign teams. Tyler Ellsworth, also an owner/operator, served in the U.S. Army with the 2-2 Infantry and had a 20-year law enforcement career with the Prescott Police Department, serving as SWAT sniper team leader for 12 years. He co-chaired the same ATOA Sniper SME Committee for nine years and has developed and instructed a wide range of firearms courses.
